Firebreak is a feature-length documentary that follows Brandon and Royal as they change lives through firefighting.
Brandon Smith and Royal Ramey’s job is to train the next generation of wildland firefighters. They met in a California program that trains prisoners to fight wildland fires, combating the effects of climate change in the state. Upon release from prison, Brandon and Royal took their passion for the work to the next level by forming their own non-profit fire department called the Buffalos, creating a pathway for other formerly incarcerated firefighters to rebuild their lives, just as they had, and empowering them to succeed.
To date, the Buffalos have helped 175 people get jobs after prison in the fire sector and are now expanding their life-changing work throughout the state.
